Acne is often defined as a skin disease caused by changes occurring in Pilosebaceous units of human skin. Pilosebaceous units are skin structures made of hair follicles and the associated sebaceous gland. You can also describe acne as a skin disorder caused by the inflammation of the skin glands and hair follicles. Acne affects areas like face, the upper part of the chest and the back.
Acne is caused by blockages in follicles. However acne doesn’t just appear on the skin for no reason. Generally people believe that acne is caused due to dirt and several other external factors such as sunlight, pollution and heat but the root cause lies internally. Secretion of hormones in the body plays an important role. Sometimes hormonal imbalance also causes acne and this is generally caused due to various factors such as tension, metabolic activity or allergies to certain foods.
Accumulation of toxic materials in the body may also lead to acne. These toxic materials are regularly produced by the body through various metabolic processes and it is essential for these to be flushed out of the system periodically. However the common perception that acne is caused by dirt is not true. Moreover the digestive system of the body plays a major role in the proper functioning of various organs. When this system doesn’t function properly the food taken in doesn’t get digested well and it creates an imbalance. Thereby accumulating unwanted material and adding to the cause of acne
The following are some instructions which would help one to fight acne and eliminate it from its root cause:
The most important thing is hygiene. Since acne is caused due to accumulation of toxins, washing face 5-6 times a day and keeping oneself clean is necessary. Drink minimum of 2 litres of water every day. Water is known as the universal solvent. It helps in breaking all the soluble components and even helps in digestion of fat. Water will even flush the toxins from the system and control the proper functioning of the digestive system too.
Do you have stomach cramps or suffer from frequent constipation? Do you want to reduce the fat at the mid-section of the body? Are you irritated by indigestion due to heavy meals? If the answer to any one the above is true then you should keep a check on the food you eat. Make sure that green vegetables, cereals, grams and proteins form a major part of your meal. Fruit or juices should be taken. Fibrous or oxygen rich supplements should be taken which will enhance your digestive process.
Secretion of hormones in proper ratio to the body needs is necessary and imbalance in such results to several problems. Herbal supplements would be of good help in such a case. Consult a doctor if you are troubled by hormonal imbalance. Raspberry tea serves as a good natural supplement for women.
Switch over to vitamin and zinc rich food from oily, processed and sugary foods. These would help prevent the breakout of acne. Vitamin rich food such as orange, carrots, salmon, watermelon, apricots should be made a part of the diet. Nuts, beef, meat, legumes and whole grains are rich in zinc. Zinc protects against inflammation and infection.
Some other common acne treatments which were used in some parts of the world were bathing in hot and mineral water, usage of benzoyl peroxide, use of laxatives; laser treatment was introduced and used widespread and blue/red light therapy.
So to have a glowing, acne free skin – keep yourself clean, eat healthy food and have a happy tension free life.
