Acne is one of the most common skin disorders in the world. It is predominantly experienced by teenagers entering puberty however it can be experienced by both men and women at any age. It is caused by the oil glands on the face and body becoming inflamed which leads to spots developing. The symptoms range in severity although the outlook is positive when treated correctly.

Acne Causes
Acne causes in youth are said to be due to hormonal changes, most notably the increase in testosterone during puberty. Hormonal changes are linked to acne causes in adults too however polycystic ovary syndrome, pregnancy and the time of the month can also cause a flare up. Sometimes medication can be linked to acne especially steroids and anti-depressants.

Treatment for Acne
The acne treatment you undertake will depend on the severity of the condition. Mild forms of acne can usually be treated with topical creams and lotions which can be bought from your local supermarket or drug store. Antibiotics are an effective treatment for acne in a moderate form, and severe cases of acne may lead your doctor to refer you to a dermatologist who can offer advice on acne treatments on an individual basis. However there are also a number of home remedies for acne that many people swear by.
