5 Common Dental Procedures Provided By A Dentist post image

Making regular visits to a dentist is mandatory if you wish to own and maintain a healthy and nice looking smile. Because of the heavily processed food that we eat nowadays, our denture is exposed to many threats, which can’t be totally eliminated with a clean oral hygiene. This is why cavities occur from time to time, teeth get stained, gums turn red, become inflamed and start bleeding. The sooner you tackle a dental problem, the easier it can be fixed. Your dentist visit will end up less pricey and your smile remains natural! The following are a few different procedures that are most common dentist offices.

1. Tooth Fillings
During the oral examination the dentist may discover that you have a cavity. In this case the dentist will drill the cavity out and use a filling to fix the hole. Generally the dentist will use a silver metal composite to fill the hole created in your tooth. After the filling is put in it stops any remaining decay in the tooth from growing. This procedure is done in the office and requires no use of anesthetic. There are a number of different types of fillings out there and finding the right one will be much easier when using a reputable dentist.

2. Root Canals
If an x ray and exam show that you have a tooth rotten down to the root a root canal may be used to correct this issue. A hole will be drilled to remove the decayed portion of the tooth and install a cap to cover the exposed nerve endings. Before the crown goes on, the dentist will fill the tooth with a solution that will harden inside of the tooth. Be sure to ask the dentist about the anesthetic being used for this procedure and whether or not you will be able to drive yourself home. Here is more about root canal treatment.

3. Crowns
When a tooth is cracked or severely decayed the use of a crown may be necessary. The crown is used to strengthen the tooth. Crowns are also commonly used after root canal to cover the exposed nerves that are left behind. Before the dentist can use the crown, they have to grind down the existing tooth to make sure the crown fits snugly. After placing the crown on the tooth the dentist uses a special adhesive to lock the crown in place. This procedure is also do in the office and requires little to no anesthetic.

4. Scaling
If the three procedures described above are very common when it comes to treating a dental problem, the upcoming ones are more from the area of prevention. Scaling is a professional teeth cleaning solution used to clean a denture from plaque and tartar. If neglected, these unwanted deposits from your teeth, will lead to paradontosis and tooth decay. Scaling is usually performed every 6 months and has to be supported by a correct dental hygiene at home.

5. Teeth Whitening
This procedure is applied on stained teeth, or any other discoloration that prevent your denture from displaying the original white shade. A bleaching agent such as hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide, is used to break the stains in to smaller ones and facilitate great cleaning. However, you can also try to whiten your teeth at home.

P.S.: Do a little research before picking a dentist, in case you don’t have one already. When choosing a dentist be sure to pick a knowledgeable and caring professional. Picking a teeth specialist is an arduous task but patience will pay off when you find a great dentist. Be sure to find out about how much experience they have and how long you will have to get an appointment. My last visit was at the scarborough dentist, which I warmly recommend if you leave in Canada.

I didn’t know that root canals leave your nerves exposed. It makes a lot of sense then that crowns are necessary for the aftermath. I also agree with your statement that a little research goes a long way when it comes to choosing a dentist!
